Next year's Annual
Here's a little preview on next year's Cartographer's Annual.

10 plastic point for the first one to tell me who's map work this style is based on.

Probably wrong, but this reminds me of Tolkiens Middle Earth stuff.

You're on the right track with middle-earth, but it's not Tolkien. :)

I know, I know. I took all the maps out the middle of the supplements and tried to get them to fit together. Which they didn't.

And then when I flogged them all it took ages to sort out which map went in which book.

That's a very nice map btw. It looks shiny.

LOL ... strange, I had exactly the same experience. The kitchen floor was /just/ big enough to spread them all out.

Looking very good, Ralf, count me in for 2008, is all I'm saying! :)

P.S. I read a guess on the list before I saw the sample, but I would agree it does look like Pete Fenlon's ICE maps.

When I see your maps I don't know whether to be elated or despair. They are just so much better than anything that I can produce although, as an annual subscriber, I can do some 'copies' that look a huge amount better than what I normally produce!

Keep up the good work - I look forward to next years subscription! Why the wait? Is Simon planning to shock us with the new price?

Hi Ralf,

I e-mailed Simon back and forth when he asked for examples of mountains and pointed out this style. There is a lovely sense of continuity that exists with this style vs. previous styles. The use of colour has been used to show continuity.

Are the mountain symbols that you plan to include in this pack joined in any other way than by hand?

For this style I have a create a few "Mountain Ridge" symbols that connect the normal mountains, which I guess results in the continuity you're looking for. They are still placed by hand though.

Pete Fenlon. Pete Fenlon.
The RPG god of my late youth. That looks so cool.
Brilliant work.
